A Luxurious Blue & White Hydrangea Wedding at Avington Park, Hampshire

A Romantic English Wedding with Hydrangeas, Timeless Styling At Avington Park, One of Our Favourite UK Wedding Venues

Welcome back to another real wedding feature, and this one is very special. If you've been following The Way to Bloom for a while, you'll know just how much I personally adore Avington Park. It's one of those wedding venues that captures everything we love about an English wedding. With elegant architecture, beautiful gardens, an iconic orangery and the opportunity to host your favourite people for an unforgettable wedding weekend.

For couples planning a destination wedding in the UK, Avington Park really is something special. The estate offers beautiful accommodation, incredible spaces to celebrate throughout the weekend, and the quintessential English charm so many of our American and Canadian couples fall in love with.

So, when Emily and Huw asked us to create the flowers for their summer wedding at Avington Park, we couldn't wait to bring their vision to life. Their wedding was timeless from start to finish. A classic palette of blues and whites, endless hydrangeas, elegant styling and thoughtful details created a celebration that felt effortlessly luxurious.

A Morning at Avington Park

One of our favourite things about Avington Park is how it allows your wedding day to begin long before the ceremony.

With accommodation across the estate, Emily & Huw and their closest family and friends spent the morning getting ready together, making the most of every moment before the celebrations began. It's one of the reasons we so often recommend venues that offer on-site accommodation. It creates a relaxed atmosphere, gives everyone more time together and makes your wedding feel like a true weekend celebration rather than just one day.

There's something incredibly special about watching the excitement build as everyone prepares together, and Avington Park provides the perfect setting for exactly that.

Classic Bridal Style with a Modern Twist

Emily looked absolutely beautiful. Her bespoke bridal gown was effortlessly elegant and paired perfectly with one of our favourite bouquets of the season. Rather than an oversized design, she chose a timeless bridal bouquet of white hydrangeas that felt modern, sculptural and incredibly chic. Hydrangeas are always a joy to work with. Their beautiful texture creates volume while still feeling soft and romantic, making them one of our favourite flowers for luxury summer weddings.

Her three bridesmaids wore the most gorgeous powder blue dresses, each carrying smaller white bouquets that beautifully complemented the bridal bouquet. Together, the white flowers against the soft blue dresses created such a fresh and sophisticated colour palette and perfectly embraced the idea of 'something blue'.

Sometimes the simplest colour palettes create the biggest impact, and this was the perfect example.

A Quintessential English Church Ceremony

The couple were married in the beautiful church on the Avington Park estate, arriving in a classic cream wedding car that couldn't have suited the day more perfectly.

The church itself is everything you imagine when dreaming of an English countryside wedding. Historic, intimate and full of character, it provided the most romantic setting to exchange vows surrounded by family and friends.

As guests gathered outside, they were welcomed into one of our favourite parts of any wedding day, the confetti moment. These joyful celebrations always make for some of the most natural photographs, and this one certainly didn't disappoint.

Cocktail Hour on the English Lawns

No English summer wedding would be complete without a little unpredictability from the weather.

While there were a few passing showers throughout the afternoon, it certainly didn't dampen this wedding celebration. Guests enjoyed cocktails on the lawn whenever the sunshine appeared, laughed together beneath umbrellas and embraced everything that makes a summer wedding in the UK so memorable.

It's something we always remind our destination wedding couples: the British weather is part of the experience. Having a venue like Avington Park, with beautiful indoor and outdoor spaces that flow so effortlessly together, regardless of the weather.

The Orangery Reception of Dreams

Then came the moment everyone had been waiting for. The doors opened into the stunning Orangery at Avington Park and, honestly, it was every bit as beautiful as we'd imagined.

The room had been transformed with soft white draping suspended between the chandeliers, adding warmth, texture and softness to the already beautiful space. Endless candlelight flickered across the tables while layers of blue and white details created a design that felt timeless yet fresh.

Our floral focus was, of course, the hydrangeas.

The long top table featured a flowing floral runner filled with layers of crisp white, soft baby blue and rich blue hydrangeas, creating movement and texture the full length of the table. It became the heart of the reception and one of our favourite floral moments of the day.

Every guest place setting had been thoughtfully designed, from woven charger plates and elegant crockery to personalised menus, baby blue napkins, coloured water glasses and beautifully patterned blue-and-white dinner plates. Each layer added another touch of texture, creating a tablescape that felt beautifully considered without ever feeling overly formal.

One of the design elements we especially loved was the combination of long banquet tables alongside round guest tables. Mixing the two layouts added movement throughout the Orangery, softened the overall look and made the reception feel incredibly inviting. It's something we often recommend when designing larger reception spaces, as it creates visual interest while allowing each area to feel connected.

A Celebration That Only Got Better

As the evening unfolded, Emily & Huw slipped away for a few golden hour portraits before returning to celebrate with everyone they love. The atmosphere shifted effortlessly from elegant wedding breakfast to relaxed evening party, complete with espresso martinis, a second bridal outfit and a packed dance floor that carried the celebrations long into the night.

It was the perfect ending to a wedding that felt joyful from beginning to end.
