English Wedding Romance | A Green & White Marquee Wedding Design
There’s a reason we’ll always come back to a classic green and white wedding. It’s a timeless design, and especially beautiful when it’s set in the English countryside under a marquee. Cate and William’s wedding at Hamswell House was a perfect example of how beautiful a green and white design can feel when it’s thoughtfully designed and layered with texture. Get ready to be inspired by this summer English countryside wedding, where classic green and white florals meet effortless marquee styling.
Hamswell House
Set just outside Bath, on the Somerset and Cotswolds border, Hamswell House is one of those venues that gives you space to really create something. Beautiful gardens, open countryside, and the flexibility to design a full wedding experience from the ground up. One of the best features of Hamswell House is the multiple outdoor spaces, making it an ideal venue for couples planning a destination-style wedding in England. For our American couples in particular, marquee weddings like this are always a favourite. A blank canvas that allows for something completely bespoke.
Modern Bridal Party Styling
Cate’s bridesmaids wore deep green dresses. A rich, tonal choice that worked beautifully against the English countryside setting. Each bridesmaid carried a single flower bouquet, stems of calla lily. It’s a trend we’re loving right now. A wedding floral trend that feels minimal, sculptural and very stylish. Sometimes less really does say more.
Cate carried this through in her own bouquet, choosing a statement arrangement of calla lilies that felt both contemporary and timeless. Paired with her stunning lace gown, Cate looked absolutely beautiful.
English Garden Outdoor Ceremony
The ceremony took place outside. A setting that felt relaxed, romantic and very in keeping with the landscape.
We designed a soft garden-inspired ceremony space using a floral arch filled with layered greenery and delicate white blooms. The aisle meadows are always one of our favourite elements, and these were no exception. Lined with green hydrangeas and softer tonal foliage, they added texture and movement without feeling too structured. It felt romantic, slightly undone, and exactly what you want from an English garden ceremony.
The focus here was on texture and movement rather than colour, letting the natural surroundings lead, while gently elevating the space.
A Relaxed Countryside Drinks Reception
Following the ceremony, guests moved onto the lawns for a cocktail hour that felt relaxed and beautifully styled. Soft furnishings created pockets of space for guests to gather, paired with flowing drinks and canapés that kept everything moving naturally.
This is one of the things we love most about marquee weddings in the UK. The ability to use the outdoor space fully and create a flow to the day that feels easy and intentional.
The Marquee Moment
And then came the marquee reveal.
Marquee weddings are one of our favourite styles to design as a wedding floral designer. Marquee weddings offer a true blank canvas, which means every detail matters. For Cate and William, we leaned fully into greenery and white, but with a slightly more modern edge.
Guests were greeted with a large whimsical floral arch, creating a show-stopping entrance into the marquee. Guests were then met with a full ceiling installation of foliage and greenery suspended above the space. It created an immediate sense of scale and atmosphere. A modern and whimsical design, and a real wow moment without feeling overdone.
At the bar, we installed a large-scale floral urn as a central feature. Designed in a rounded shape so it could be appreciated from every angle, it added structure to the space while tying into the overall floral story.
Tablescape Design: Layered, Textured, Intentional
The tablescape followed the same wedding colour palette, but with a bit more depth.
Deep green linens set the tone, paired with white florals, soft candlelight and clean place settings. The mix of tones — from darker greens through to softer foliage, created a layered, tonal effect that felt rich but still classic.
This is where marquee weddings really come into their own. With no fixed interiors, every detail, from linens to florals, works harder to define the space. The result here was a reception that felt cohesive, elegant and completely tailored to the couple.
Evening Party
Guests moved effortlessly from dinner into the dance floor, surrounded by candlelight, foliage and a space that felt warm and inviting.
The band stage was framed with lush greenery, keeping the design consistent while allowing the energy of the evening to build. Subtle additions like disco balls added a playful contrast to the otherwise classic styling. A small detail that made a big difference once the dancing began.
An After-Party Like No Other
Now this is where it got fun.
Cate and William fully switched things up for the after-party! They created a space-themed after-party, with a glow in the dark vibe that felt unexpected and genuinely fun.
It’s always one of our favourite things when couples lean into something unexpected like this. You can have a beautifully designed, classic wedding, and still end the night with something that feels completely different.
It was nightclub energy, statement lighting and yes, full spacesuits for the couple and their guests.
It was bold, playful and the perfect contrast to the elegance of the day. A reminder that weddings can hold both timeless design and moments of personality that feel completely your own.
A Dream Team
Cate and William worked closely with wedding planner Ella Hartig from Ella Hartig Events to bring the day together, and it was such a joy to collaborate on this one. Ella has a beautiful way of curating weddings that feel both effortless and thoughtfully designed, and this celebration was exactly that. Thank you for trusting us at The Way to Bloom with your wedding florals.
